Clontarf

Clontarf and Yirara College have been working in partnership since 2007.

The Clontarf Foundation exists to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and by doing so equips them to participate more meaningfully in society.

Clontarf has been working in partnership with Yirara College Since the beginning of 2007. At the centre of this partnership is our 'Clontarf Academy' which is embedded within the school grounds to help the young men of Yirara attend classes, finish Year 12 and enter employment.

Full-time, locally based Clontarf staff, mentor and counsel students on a range go behavioural and lifestyle issues while the school caters for their education needs. Any Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander male enrolled at the school/s is eligible to participate in the Clontarf Academy. Clontarf staff members are involved in and support the academic program.

Academy activities are planned within the focus areas of education, leadership, employment, wellbeing, life skills and sport. In order to remain in the program, participants must continue to work at school and embrace the objectives of the the Foundation.

Since opening its first Academy for 25 boys in 2000 the Foundation has grown to cater for over 8,000 young men in 129 schools across Western Australia, Northern Territory, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
